What time do trips usually start?

Most offshore trips leave early in the morning, typically around 4:30–5:30 AM from Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. This gives us the best shot at catching fish when they’re most active. Capt. Brad will reach out and confirm what time to be at the dock prior to your scheduled trip.

How long is a full-day offshore fishing trip?

A full-day trip usually lasts 10–11 hours. You’ll spend a few hours running offshore, plenty of time fishing, and then the ride back to the dock in the afternoon.

What kind of fish can we expect to catch?

Depending on the season, you might catch yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi (dolphin), wahoo, blue marlin, white marlin, or sailfish. Our crew will let you know what’s running before your trip.

Do I need to bring my own fishing license?

No. Your fishing license is included in the trip price. Moana Sportfishing covers all required permits.

What should I bring on the boat?

We recommend:

  • Non-spray sunscreen, hat, and polarized sunglasses

  • Non-streaking Soft-soled shoes with grip

  • Drinks and snacks (alcohol is permitted in moderation)

  • A cooler to take your cleaned fish home after the trip

Are food and drinks provided?

You’ll need to bring your own. Pack a cooler with plenty of water, sports drinks, snacks, and lunch for the day.

What happens to the fish we catch?

The Oregon Inlet Fishing Center has a fish house where your fish are cleaned and bagged.

Can kids come offshore fishing?

Yes! Kids are welcome, but keep in mind offshore trips are long days on the water. We recommend children who are old enough to handle the ride and enjoy the experience.

What if the weather is bad?

Your safety is our top priority. If conditions offshore aren’t safe, we’ll reschedule your trip for another day or provide a refund.

Do I need any fishing experience?

Not at all. Our crew is here to help every step of the way — from setting lines to coaching you through the fight when you’ve got a fish on.

Is tipping the crew expected?

Yes. It’s customary to tip the mate 15–20% of the trip cost for their hard work throughout the day.

Where is Moana Sportfishing located?

Moana Sportfishing is based out of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center in Nags Head, North Carolina. You’ll find us at Dock 5, which is closer to the inlet. When you pull into the fishing center, drive to the left side of the marina and down toward the end — that’s where Dock 5 is located and where our crew will be ready to welcome you aboard. The fishing center has plenty of parking and amenities to make your day easy.
